But, why is it called The Orangerie?

Welcome, welcome!  I’m delighted that you are here, and now I bet you’re wondering, “what on earth is an orangerie?”  Well friend, I am so glad you asked!  An Orangerie is a building, with windows all around, that houses and grows fruit trees (including orange trees) that could not otherwise survive in cold weather climates. The windows let in sunlight and warmth which creates a happy environment for the plants to grow and thrive.  Think greenhouse, but dreamier!  Some modern orangeries (like the one in my dreams) have even been converted into living spaces or rooms for hosting and gathering!

So, there you have it, now you know what is an orangerie, but I bet you are still wondering…why?  Why is this online space named after something that is an actual building?  Well, I have always dreamed of having a little orangerie all my own-filled with sunlight, cozy spaces, found treasures, a place to create and yes, maybe even a few orange trees.  Since I don’t have a physical orangerie, I decided to create one here for me, for you.

The thing is, the older I get the more I realize that life is filled with bummers, all around us!  But life is also filled with so much good!

And beauty.

And laughter.

And fun.

And quirkiness.

And color.

And joy.

And, and, and!

The Orangerie, this online space, is my quiet resistance against all the bummers of life.  In this place we choose to celebrate good and fight for joy with beauty, creativity, and kindness. Join me, if you’d like!  Pull up an imaginary chair* and just take a minute-there is no rush here in The Orangerie.

*(Probably a chartreuse velvet armchair.  Or maybe hot pink.)
